The Challenge

Vancouver Island Health Authority implemented Cerner’s IHealth system as part of its “One Person. One Record. One Plan.” vision. It was described as one of the largest transitions in Island Health’s history.

The rollout required clinicians across the region to adopt electronic clinical documentation while maintaining care delivery. Training had to equip diverse staff groups for new digital workflows without disrupting operations.

Our solution

We designed scenario-based eLearning modules that let staff practice tasks in a safe, simulated environment before go-live.

The blended training program combined simulations, process-based reference materials, and just-in-time job aids hosted in Confluence to support self-service learning.

Results

On-site and ongoing support were recognized by staff as critical to the transition, reinforcing the value of the training program.

The clinical documentation go-live at Royal Jubilee Hospital was reported as “smooth and successful”, with staff engaged and confident in using the new system.

High levels of staff engagement reflected the effectiveness of role-based training and the accessibility of learning resources.
