Interactive learning experiences that capture the imagination

If your online learners are only watching recorded presentations and reading through slide decks, they may become bored – and they don’t see how what they’re learning relates to them.

We believe that people learn best when the material is relevant and engaging. Through meaningful interactions built on real world experiences, lessons become vehicles for inspiration and joy.

Case Study: Colliers International

Colliers is a global real estate services and investment management company. It wanted more interactive training materials for an accelerated learning program for junior brokers.

Employees weren’t accessing training on the Learning Management System because it took too much time away from their jobs to complete, it wasn’t relevant and didn’t help them perform better on the job.

We learned that what learners most valued from senior mentors was their practical, real-world advice that couldn’t be found in formal learning. We leveraged the mentors’ valuable experiences and stories, and distilled the formal training down into interactive video-based informal learning.

Employees could watch the videos in their car while they waited for clients. The learning was more accessible and reached more employees. It provided insight from experienced brokers in relatable situations. More employees took advantage of the training, which had a positive impact on overall sales.

Planning for Performance

Workplace training programs that get measurable results

Typical workplace training is often focused on passing on knowledge, which can sometimes leave people feeling unsure about how to apply that knowledge in their work.

Our performance-first methodology helps keep learning focused on what people need to do differently on the job.

Case Study: BC Liquor Distribution Branch

The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is responsible for the wholesale distribution and retail sale of alcohol in British Columbia. They were implementing a new supply chain management system while also moving to a larger distribution centre and switching to all-new tools and equipment.

Employees were used to classroom training and big binders to teach how to use the computer system. They didn’t have any support on the job other than each other’s expertise. This training approach was a problem because it was an entirely new system where everyone is starting at square one.

We spent time with the people who were doing the hands-on work – not just the managers – and learned what their concerns were about the upcoming changes. We worked collaboratively to create a training plan with simulation training for staff to safely practice new skills and build up their confidence, and just-in-time training materials to be used on the job.

Employees adapted to the new systems with more confidence, knowing that trainers and up-to-date training materials were available for everyone. The organization maintained service levels throughout the transition.

Systems Training

Systems simulations and support that empowers people

Systems projects are often focused on technology, which can sometimes leave people feeling ignored, and sometimes lock in decisions that don’t meet their needs.

Our people-centered approach to systems implementation is built on empathy and providing support that helps learners build confidence with new tools and technologies.

Case Study: City of Vancouver

The City of Vancouver, serves over 650,000 residents with permits and licenses. They were replacing their 20-year-old internal system while also implementing online applications for the general public.

Many key senior staff members were highly invested in their expertise using the existing system and were not confident in their ability to master the new system and perform at the same level.

We met the impacted business teams early in the process. We listened to their fears, frustrations and experiences. This allowed us to build training supports around their actual needs, and not our own expectations. We created software simulations with an option for a guided walkthrough for following along on the job, and a variety of reference materials for specific user needs.

Employees reported that they felt that they had been heard and their concerns addressed. Practicing with the new software in a safe environment helped build their confidence and expertise as they adapted to the new system faster than had been anticipated, resulting in a smoother transition.
